J. Deno Brown -- Bass
Jason
Canary | Mike Hertel | Artie Manno J.
Deno Brown, a South Florida transplant, plays a variety
of bass lines from
the driving drone to the melodic flair. Deno has played in previous projects
with a variety of styles. Storybook, a neo folk rock band, a la Indigo
Girls as well as with Second
Glance, the popular Atlanta recording group.
Deno grew up
in Grafton Ohio, a rural community in the Cleveland area. His earlier musical
influences would be bands such as Rush, Pink Floyd, Aerosmith, The Rolling
Stones, etc... However, Deno continues to be influenced by more recent
bands such as Pearl Jam, Sound Garden, Metallica, Live etc...
Deno moved
to the Atlanta area and played guitar or bass in several high school and
basement bands. In 1994 he joined Storybook. After recording their
demo and playing shows for several months dissension within the band caused
a split in June 1995. Storybook's lead singer songwriter went her way leaving
Deno, along with the rest of the group without a lead singer and material.
Chris Hester,
Cousin to Murray Attaway of Guadalcanal
Diary fame & friends of the now voiceless Storybook musicians,
was looking to start a new solo project. With a ready made band available
the decision was made and Second
Glance was off to the races.
With Second
Glance, Deno helped to record and produce the
bands first EP " The Stage is Set," saw their Debut CD entitled "3 Words"
released on J-Bird
Records as well as playing the hottest venues on the Atlanta
music scene.
After 4 years,
while in the middle of recording the follow-up to "3 Words," Deno found
it necessary to leave Atlanta and Second Glance for
reasons unrelated to the band. While the decision to leave was very hard
to make, Deno felt the move to South Florida was in the best interest of
his family. Deno and Chris remain friends and plan to collaborate on future
projects.
Once the move
to South Florida was complete in 1998 Deno spent a few months settling
in to the new surroundings. Happening upon a local music trade magazine,
Deno answered an ad-- Bassist Wanted-- and joined up with Mike Hertel, Carol Ascari, & Jason Canary of Downpour.
Over the next couple years Deno played an integral part of the group as webmaster and focusing on band promotions along with his bass duties -- The months saw personnel changes which would normally kill most bands. With Mike and Carol both leaving and returning at various times, Jason & Deno were able to maintain and keep the group going.
Early 2001 saw Mike
leave the group with Carol, Jason, & Deno firmly inplace, Tony Colella
was added to the line up on lead guitar. The Group then decided on Filmore
Street to replace the Downpour moniker!!!
The rest of 2001
saw Filmore Street open for such national acts as "Draw
the Line" , An Aerosmith Tribute band - "The
Soft Parade" , A Doors Tribute band, and the Southern Rock Masters
"Molly Hatchet" as well
as finish their 3 song demo "Road
Work Ahead"
January 2002 saw
Carol leave the band to get married and Tony left to pursue his education
at Full Sail in Orlando -- Deno & Jason worked diligently to replace
the missing players. as of april 2002 not having found the players needed
the future looked dim.
Adam of The Factory,
Ft. Lauderdales Premier Rock club called to say that "Burner"
, a Fellow South Florida Rock act had just been signed by Arctic
Records, wished that Downpour would play their CD release party. Downpour,
now being Filmore Street.
Deno & Jason
on a whim called Mike Hertel & Artie Manno formerlly of Downpour, both
of which were excited to play. Thus bringing the Downpour Players together
as Filmore Street. |
